Sports and Politics

Jae Michael

Hey, let's just do it! People may say that sports and politics don’t mix, but I beg to differ. I know it's hard to believe or to wrap your intellectual mind around it, but sports is part of life and life is one big political issue.
 "Girl Please"

Let's come right out of the gate with it....  Bill Belichick threatened to cut Aaron if he got himself in any more  trouble.
Bill Belichick

Did Bill know that Aaron Hernandez was about to go crazy and kill someone before it happened, and were there signs and did Belichick ignore them?

Rolling Stone published a story that pointed out that Bill may have seen these signs.

Aaron Hernandez/Rolling Stone

The Article adds more details from the exchange the night Odin Lloyd was murdered.
The complete article covered his angel dust use, his sort trouble in Pistol, to threats that Bill was going to cut him.  The Rolling Stone suggested that Billl Belichick had foreseen this coming, with all of the skipped workouts with Brady, to his no show with his therapist, and an  altercation with his girl friend.

Aaron Hernandez
In the article, it was reported the Aaron spoke to Bill and told him that he was scared for his life and said  the gangster that he befriended was trying to kill him. According to the article, Belichick told him that he would be traded or cut if he gets in any more trouble and to lay low.   Shortly after that Hernandez was released from his contract from the Patriots, then after that he was arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd

What gets me sick about this whole mess, is that who did not see this train wreck coming? Stevie Wonder could have seen it.  With all of Aaron's history,  why didn't Aaron's support group jump in and save his life before he crashed?

Kardashians! Can't Live With Them, Can't Live Without Them!
Have you ever wondered how would it be with a Kardashian? Well all you need to do is look at professional basketball player Lamar Odom.
Khole Kardashian. and Lamar Odom
Khloe Kardashian's husband, Odom has been reportedly abusing crack cocaine and is in and lock up in a  hotel room  where his support circle is talking him through an intervention. Initial reports said that Odom was missing for three days on a drug abusing spree.

Some media sources reported that Khloe kicked Odom out of the house last week because of his behavior, but I wonder was it because of her behavior that led the Odom's drug use. There's a difference between living in the lime light as an NBA basketball player and in keeping up with the Kardashians. I mean how many of athletes have the Kardashians have drove insane? You can ask Reggie Bush, Miles Austin, Kris Humphries about their current mental state after with dealing with Kim Kardashian. I  tell you there's something about the mystique of the Kardashians that keeps male athletes lining up at their front door. I guess the only way to overcome the withdrawal symptoms of being with a Kardashian is to follow the path of Lamar Odom and destroy your brain cells so you can forget about the forbidden and unmentionable experiences from being with the Kardashian sisters.

Was Pippen Tripping? Not According to the Law!

Athletes can have it hard trying to live a normal life out in the public, some of them can't even sit down at a restaurant and enjoy a meal with their family with out a deranged fan taking things to the extreme. It must be the money!

Scottie Pippen
For example, charges against former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen has been dropped concerning the incident between him and Camran Shafighi, who demanded an autograph from Pippen in a restaurant in Malibu. Reports suggest that Shafighi faked a seizure after the denial of an autograph, claiming that Pippen punched him in the face.

According to the report at the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, Pippen told investigators Shafighi started, "grabbing at him, cursing him and then spit in his face."

The reports, according to Shafighi's position, said that Pippen punched and kicked him. It also said "The last memory Shafighi had before losing consciousness was seeing Pippen's foot coming toward his face."

Shafighi has since filed a lawsuit against Pippen, asking for 4 million dollars for  his physical injuries. However, according to reports, the only noticeable injuries were a small cut on his lip and a bruise on his chin.
Wow! He may can get a dollar to buy a bandage.

Eric Reid
News and Notes:
First round pick safety Eric Reid was named a starter for the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 8 regular-season opener by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. The rookie beat out veteran safety Craig Dahl to take over former all pro Dashon Goldson's position on one of the leagues best defenses.

Fangio said that Reid improved and has become steady. "He's grown in the position, which has allowed his ability to come through more and more," Fangio commented . "He's tackled well in the games which is important for us."

The Warriors Will Succeed!
I would bet my last dollar that the Golden State Warriors finish in the upper half of the Western Conference playoff positions. They do not have to worry about the Kobe Bryantless Los Angeles Lakers, They are now ready to handle the Los Angeles Clippers, and you know the Denver Nuggets are scared of the sight of the Warriors’ logo after the Warriors ran them out of the playoffs.
There is high expectation for the 2013 Golden State Warriors and
their fans are ready to rock the Oracle Arena once again.
Stephen Curry
They no longer have to prove themselves and now can let go of their saying “We Belong.” They finished with the sixth seed in playoffs, knocked off the favorite Denver Nuggets in six games, battled with the San Antonio Spurs but lost in six. They have a growing super star in Stephen Curry who set a NBA record for three pointers (272) in a single season. They have an all star power forward in David Lee and young talents in Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes. They also signed former all star Andre Iguodala to a four year deal and center Jermaine O’Neal to a one year deal.

Get ready NBA teams, because here the Curry brothers ! Stephen Curry and Seth Curry!
Stephen Curry

Seth Curry

News and Notes:
The Golden State Warriors signed undrafted guard Seth Curry, Stephen Curry’s little brother, to compete for a spot on the team. He averaged 17.5 points per game for the Duke Blue Devils last season.
Thought Pro Athletes Would Be Set For Life?
It must be great being a NFL or NBA player with all the million dollar deals and endorsement money. I tell you if I was a NBA player, I would be set for life. At least I thought so until I was educated about the average professional athlete’s financial woes.
Well over 60% of professional athletes file for Bankruptcy towards the end of their career. They overspend, mismanage their finances, make poor investment and give away a lot of money to family and friends. In Sum, they spend and splurge like if they have 12 months to live.

Antoine Walker
For example, former NBA basketball player Antoine Walker, who made over $110 million over his career is now broke at 33 years old. All the NBA and endorsement money is long gone. You can blame his lavish lifestyle, the million dollar homes, condos, luxury vehicles, and his giving heart for his current financial situation.

Not only is he millions of dollars in debt, he is facing felony check fraud charges in Las Vegas according to Shira Springer of The Boston Globe.,198509

In conclusion, I would have been broke as a joke like the majority of athletes I watched on TV growing up. What a dream!

Players Plus Nightclubs Could Equal Arrest
It is wonderful that the 2013 NFL season is weeks away because some players do not know how to behave during the off season. Especially when it comes to players deciding to hang out at nightclubs and bars.
Ray Lewis
Maybe NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL owners need to sit down and add prohibitions concerning players going to nightclubs and bars because the results are sometimes detrimental to players.  I believe  that Nightclubs and bars have not been good to players, where consumption of alcohol leads to violent behavior. Adam “Pacman” Jones can attest to that. Even high profile players such as Ray Lewis, Plexico Burress and the beloved Adrian Peterson, who was eventually cleared, got into trouble with the law hanging out at nightclubs and bars.  In addition, players are racking up DUI’s and marijuana possessions.
Currently, under the NFL code of personal conduct policy “Any Covered Person arrested for or charged with conduct prohibited by this policy will be required to
undergo a consultation and additional counseling as directed. Failure to comply with the consultation and counseling (...) shall itself be conduct detrimental to the National Football League and shall be punishable by fine or suspension at the discretion of the Commissioner.” There have already been 28 arrests of active NFL players, majority for DUI’s and marijuana possession.
News and Notes:
The Forty Niners traded wide receiver A.J. Jenkins, their 2012 first round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for their former first round receiver Jon Baldwin. Baldwin has just 41 catches for 579 yards and two touchdowns through two NFL seasons.
See ya.

Ped's and Concussions.docx

Malachi Blogger

To the sports world at large, I am Malachi and this is SPORTS 101! I will be educating you about issues surrounding sports from my perspective and giving you insight into the big games.

Is There a Connection Between PED’s and Concussions?

By Garry Malachi Scott- I can’t blame the NFL for their enforcement of penalties concerning helmet to helmet hits for player’s safety and for financial reasons. I believe in penalties on the field when it comes to illegal hits. I also believe in penalties off the field when it comes to players violating the league’s substance abuse policy concerning PED’s (Performance Enhancing Drugs). PED’s lead to more concussions, which lead to more money towards players’ health care and lawsuits against the NFL.

With players becoming bigger, stronger, and faster in comparison to the early NFL, I wonder if there is a link between PED’s and brain injuries in today’s NFL. The new breed of NFL players are knocking each other almost unconscious.
Google Images
According to Concussion Watch, there was an average of 9.2 weekly reported concussions in the NFL during the 2012 season. Not to mention the unreported concussions that teams failed to report.
There have been 17 NFL suspensions this year due to violations of the league’s substance abuse policy, specifically performance enhancing drugs.

Keep in mind that this is not counting players who are appealing the NFL’s decision in their case, such as All Pro Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller.
Key players to NFL teams are suspended through the first four games such as Daryl Washington of the Arizona Cardinals, Justin Blackmon of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Bruce Irvine of the Seattle Seahawks.  That's all folks

"Girl Please"

Create the end of July

Darriues Moore Raiders CD

It's the end of July and the end of mini training camps so let's sum it up with who going to pop off this season. I'm checking out the Raiders wide receiver, number 17, Darriues Moore who’s looking extremely fit & healthy, but “I'm no doctor and this is still OTA”. Moore led the Raiders receivers last year with 51 receptions for 741 yards and seven touchdowns. However Moore got benched during a game late last season for lackluster plays. Now coach Dennis Allen  said,"He's a guy that we're counting on being our No. 1 receiver,"  I would feel the same way Coach Allen after losing, receiver Darrius Heyward and tight end Brandon Myers this off season. Moore is looking good, but like I said “I'm no doctor and this is still OTA camp”.

 Anquan Boldin SF 49ers
On the other side of Bay at the SF 49er’s OTA camp I did not get a good look at all of the wide receivers. However Anquan Boldin wide receiver, did caught my eyes he show off his skills during the San Francisco 49ers practice catching all passes thrown in his direction making it look easy. I think 49ers got them a keeper. Not only is Anquan working hard on the field he is also working hard to bring awareness to human right issues in Washington DC. Boldin has been a long-time advocate of human rights issues in Africa. Boldin spoke to members of Congress about destitute farmers he encountered in Africa, working on land where gold was in abundance. You have these people who literally live on top of gold and they see no benefits from it,” to me it's so refreshing to see when athletes take the spotlight off themselves and on a real cause. I'm glad that Anquan is taking  a stand, most athletes are so focus on their careers and what is portray in the media about them, they forget sometimes they have the upper hand to do something good for others when the cameras is on them  Good job Anquan.

AIM-WEST Director Antonio Gonzales

AIM-WEST Director Antonio Gonzales he file a claim complaint of Discrimination with the SF Human Rights Commission (over two years ago!) because he and other American Indians and allies e offended. He is a citizen of SF, homeowner, American Indian (Comca'Ac) a disabled Vietnam veteran (68-69), and he believe the SF Giants baseball team are also complicit in racism when the Atlanta Braves come to town depicting Indigenous culture (logo, tomahawk chop, singing, etc.) Negatively. More specific, the City is in violation of the UN General Assembly resolution adopted on September 2007, called the "Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples". I think teams that are name after indigenous people should change there names to fit the city form which they came form. It has been know that there was one football team that has change there name...1930 until 1972, Stanford's sports teams had been known as the Indians,Prince Light foot (portrayed by Timm Williams, a member of the (Yurok tribe) was the official mascot. But in 1972,Native American students and staff members successfully lobbied University President Richard Lyman to abolish the "Indian" name along with what they had come to perceive as an offensive and demeaning mascot. Stanford's teams reverted unofficially to the name "Cardinal", the color that had represented the school before 1930.   To read more

Jae's Comment

Well I guest If Stanford's teams can unofficially changed their name, some other teams can follow suit. like; the Los Angeles Aztecs and my favorite The Washington Redskins. Your right it sound bad,but in their defense maybe some of these sports teams names and mascots that derived from ethnic groups of peoples is giving gratitude to the people that was here before them or Maybe some professional teams think if they change their names, there fans may not recognize them," Right"  Now you know that's not true, there are loyal fans out there and they do not care if the names of their teams is change. They will still follow their favorite individual athlete and team to the ends of time. Theses loyal fans made complain a little but overall they do not care. If their team was call Cock-a-doodle-do they would dress up like a rooster and be at every game cheering their teams on. However let's cut out belittling a race of people for a buck ii is disgraceful and  stealing their identity now that's just wrong... isn't it just about the game and fun. Wake up people you are not here on this earth by yourself.
